Mutton curry is an authentic Indian recipe that is quit popular in India. The dish is usually prepared with mutton and vegetables; loaded with spices that are cooked in a little oil or ghee. This is a mouth watering recipe that not only fills your stomach but also satisfies your soul.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 Kg mutton
  • 4 sliced onion
  • 2 tbps coriander powder
  • 2 teaspoon garlic paste
  • 4 cloves
  • 5 green cardamom
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • salt as required
  • 2 cup water
  • 4 tablespoon ghee
  • 2 cup yoghurt (curd)
  • 2 teaspoon ginger paste
  • 2 teaspoon red chilli powder
  • 3 tomatoes (mashed)
  • 8 peppercorns
  • 1/2 teaspoon powdered turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala powder

Instructions

  • Step 1

    To prepare this dish, firstly,  we need to clean and wash the mutton pieces.

  • Heat oil or ghee in a fry pan. Add  cloves,cardamom, black pepper corns and cinnamon sticks.
  • Saute these ingredients for a minute and add the finely chopped onions in it.
  • Saute till the onion turns golden brown.
  • Next, add ginger-garlic paste and cook the mixture till the raw smell disappears.
  • Step 2
  • Add the mashed tomatoes and blend it well with the other ingredients.
  • Now, add red chili powder, turmeric powder and coriander powder and mix it well.
  • Saute this mixture and cook until oil separates from the masala.
  • Now, add mutton pieces in the pan and mix it well. Make ensure that all the mutton pieces are evenly marinated with masala.
  • Step 3

    Add yoghurt or curd in the mutton masala and mix it well.

  • Add water and garam masala powder to this mixture and let it cook for 4-5 minutes.
  • Cook for another 25 minutes. Give it a nice stir.
  • Now switch off the flame and transfer the dish in a bowl.
  • Garnish this dish with fresh coriander leaves and serve it hot with naan or rice.
