How to make Fish Tikka Masala Recipe


Fish tikka masala is a popular and healthy recipe that is served mainly in North India. Basically, it is the adaption of chicken tikka masala recipe. This recipe is cooked with tomato gravy. Addition of cream gives this recipe a nice and creamy texture. Fish pieces are firstly marinated with lemon juice and are dunked in masala gravy.

  • For marination
  • 2 Fish, cut into equal pieces
  • 1 Lemon juice
  • 1/4 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • Salt as per taste
  • a pinch of pepper
  • For the Masala
  • 1 Cardamom
  • 1 Bay leaf or tej patta
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin powder
  • 2 tbsp Fresh cream
  • 1 teaspoon Coriander Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Ginger Garlic Paste
  • 1/2 teaspoon Red chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 1 tablespoon Kasuri Methi (Dried Fenugreek Leaves)
  • 1 cup warm water
  • Salt as per taste
  • For the gravy
  • 1 chopped onion
  • 1/2 chopped tomato
  • 5 Cashew nuts
  • 2 Cloves or Laung
  • 1/4 teaspoon Cinnamon Powder or dalchini


  1. To begin with the recipe firstly, take a medium size bowl. Marinate all  the fish pieces with turmeric powder, pepper, lemon and salt. Rest aside for 20 minutes.
  2. Now in a pan, Heat oil on medium flame. Add onions, tomatoes, cashews and cinnamon powder and a little amount of water.
  3. Fry well and grind them in a mixer jar to form a smooth paste.
  4. Now in the same pan, heal oil on low to medium flame. Add bay leaf and cardamom. Saute for 1 minute.
  5. Add paste to the pan, cook until the raw smell disappears.
  6. Add red chili powder, turmeric powder, cumin, coriander powder and salt. Saute for 5 minutes.
  7. After this method, keep the flame on low and add cream. Make sure that while putting cream into a pan, you should keep your flame on low heat.
  8. Now add the marinated fish pieces so that the pieces get easily coated with the masala.
  9. Now switch off the flame.
  10. Sprinkle some coriander leaves and kasuri methi over the pan.
  11. Transfer the dish to a serving plate.
  12. Serve this Fish tikka masala recipe with naan, roti, or kulcha.
