Mutton korma is one of the popular dishes in India. It is mainly served in Nizam region (Telangana) as the main course meal. It is an authentic mughlai dish as well. In this recipe, all the mutton pieces are marined with spices and yoghurt and are cooked on a medium flame. This dish is best served with naan, rice, chapati and pulav.

  • For marination:
  • 500 gms of mutton or lamb
  • 2 inch cinnamon or dalchini
  • 5 cardamons
  • 1 green chili
  • 5-6 cloves
  • 1 tbsp red chili powder
  • 1 tbsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tbsp coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp crushed black pepper
  • 1 tsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 yogurt
  • salt as per requirement
  • For the recipe:
  • oil for frying
  • 3 onions- thinly sliced
  • 3 tsp ghee
  • 1 tsp javiri
  • 1/4 tsp jaiphal powder
  • 2 tsp kewda water
  • 2 cups of water.


For Marination:

Take a bowl. Add all the mutton pieces to it. Make sure that all the pieces are gently washed.

Add cloves , cinnamon, cardamom and black pepper and yogurt to the bowl.

Add all the spices like red chili powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder, green chilies and salt. Mix all the ingredients well.

Cover this mixture for one and half hour. Let them marinate completely.

How to prepare mutton korma:

Add some ghee over the marinade and cook on a medium flame.

Add 2 cups of water , cover the pan and allow the mutton pieces boil for 20 minutes.

Take another pan, heat the oil and add onions. Fry till the onions turn to golden brown color.

Take all the onions and transfer it in a plate.

After 20 minutes, add javitri and jaiphal powder. Mix well.

Continue to cook unless the mutton pieces turn to soft and mashy.

Now add kewda water and fried onions to the pan.

Cook for one hour so that the mutton pieces can absorb the flavors of ingredients.

Switch off the flame. Serve this yummy recipe with naan, roti, pulav or rice.
