Pasta is popularly known as desi pasta recipe is prepared with penne pasta with loads of spices that suit Indian taste buds. it is generally prepared without cheese as compared to the traditional Italian pasta recipes. Furthermore, the Indian style pasta recipe generally made with readymade red sauce. However, it can also be made with tomato sauce.

It is a unique and fusion recipe between two famous and popular cuisines i.e Indian cuisine and Italian cuisine. Basically a desi or spicy twist to the authentic Italian pasta recipe to meet the taste buds of spice lovers. it is an ideal lunch box recipe for kids and as well as for adults.

The recipe of Indian style pasta masala is completely open-ended and can be experimented with choice of veggies and sauces. for example, the masala pasta recipe can be prepared with veggies like carrots, beans, peas, broccoli, snow pea and even sliced mushrooms. in addition to this, Indian style pasta can take plain tomato sauce, hot and sweet tomato ketchup, and even any choice of mayo recipes.

We personally like the combination of mayo and plain tomato sauce which makes it tangy and creamy. We even sometimes add chilli sauce to make it tangy and spicy combination masala pasta recipe. Finally coming to spices, we have added red chilli powder, garam masala and some turmeric. It can be further extended to dry spices like cinnamon and bay leaves for more flavours.

While the recipe for masala pasta recipe is extremely simple, yet we would like to share some tips and recommendations for perfect spicy Indian pasta recipes. Firstly, use pasta of your choices like penne, macaroni and spaghetti. we prefer to add tomato pulp, however, you can also use canned tomato pulp or red pasta sauce. finally, adjust the amount of chilli powder depending on the spice level. skip the chilli powder if serving for kids.

  • 1 cup penne pasta, or any pasta
  • water to boil
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp oil
  • 1 tsp butter
  • 2 clove garlic, finely chopped
  • 1 inch ginger, finely chopped
  • ½ onion, finely chopped
  • 1 cup tomato pulp
  • ¼ tsp turmeric / haldi
  • ½ tsp kashmiri red chilli powder
  • 2 tbsp tomato sauce
  • ½ tsp garam masala
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp corn
  • ¼ capsicum, finely chopped
  • ¼ carrot, finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp peas / matar
  • 7 florets broccoli
  • 3 tbsp water
  • ½ tsp mixed herbs, basil, marjoram, oregano, rosemary, sage, thyme


  • Firstly, saute 2-inch ginger and 2 clove garlic in 1 tsp oil and 1 tsp butter.
  • Then add and saute ½ onion till they turn soft.
  • Add 1 cup tomato pulp and saute well.
  • keep stirring till the tomato pulp thickens.
  • now add turmeric powder,  chilli powder,  garam masala and salt.
  • Saute till the spices get cooked completely.
  • Add 2 tbsp corn, ¼ capsicum, ¼ carrot, 2 tbsp peas and 7 florets broccoli. saute for a minute.
  • Add  2 cups of water and mix everything well.
  • now add in 2 Tbsp tomato sauce and mixed herbs. mix them completely.
  • Add in cooked pasta and mix gently till the sauce gets coated well.
  • At   last , serve masala pasta with cheese and hot.
