Veg Frankie Roll, Veg Kathi Roll

Veg Frankie Recipe or Veg Kathi Roll is a popular street food of India. It is generally originated from the streets of Kolkata. This recipe is considered as one of the most simple street food recipes. It is made with the spiced mix vegetables are wrapped in chapatis. Traditionally it is known as Veg Kathi Roll however on the street sides, it is known as Veg Frankie Roll. There are different variations of Veg Frankie Roll such as Paneer Kathi Roll, Aloo Kathi Roll and many more.

We can also use grated paneer and multi-grains to the Veg Frankie roll. We prefer using multi-grain instead of all-purpose flour. Usage of multi grain flour is more beneficial than all purpose flour.

Veggies generally used in Veg Frankie Roll are mashed potatoes, capsicum and onions. Moreover green peas, mushrooms and carrots also can be used.

  • 2 tsp oil
  • ½ capsicum, thinly sliced
  • 2 potatoes, boiled, peeled and mashed
  • ¾ cup cottage cheese or paneer, crumbled
  • 1 tsp Kashmiri chilli powder / lal mirch powder
  • ½ tsp garam masala powder
  • ½ tsp chaat masala
  • salt to taste
  • 2 tsp butter
  • 3 chapati or wraps
  • 6 tsp tomato sauce
  • ½ cup lettuce, thinly chopped
  • 1 carrot, thinly chopped
  • ½ onion, thinly sliced
  • 3 tsp green chutney


  • Firstly, Take a pan. Add oil to it. Saute onion and capsicum for 2-3 minutes in a low medium flame.
  • Add mashed potatoes and crumbled paneer. Add red chilli powder, garam masala powder and chaat masala powder and salt.
  • Mix everything well. Now add butter on Tawa or Griddle.
  • Add chapatis, roast them completely. Now plate the roasted chapati.
  • Apply tomato sauce over the chapatis. 
  •  Place lettuce, carrot and onion in the centre of chapathi.
  • Now, place the prepared cylindrical stuffing of aloo in the center
  • Now apply green chutney and now fold the bottom up.
  • Slowly, fold both the sides one after another.
  • Roll into aluminium foil or butter paper covering the Frankie.
  • Serve, veg frankie or kathi roll is ready to serve with tomato sauce.
